Construction on the home started in 1886 and was completed in 1888 by George Andrew Jackson who is credited with discovery of the first commercial deposits of gold in Colorado. Locals lovingly refer to the house as the Poor Farm due to its history as a place for indigent and sick miners from 1914 - 1937. It was later purchased in the 1950s and became a private residence. In 2000 the home was purchased by a local judge and builder, who started an amazing 10 year restoration project which included completely new plumbing, electric, exterior walls with foam insulation, a copper roof, new sub-floors, a central heating and cooling system, and new doors and windows.
