The Life You Love: May Events in Colorado

There is so much to love about living in Colorado. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, urban adventurer, sports fan, or patron of the arts  – there is something here to feed everyone’s passions. Check out these new and exciting events to add to your calendar this month that will help you fall in love with where you live all over again.

Canon City Music and Bloom festival – May 4-8th

This all-around festival features music, parades, craft fairs, and a beauty pageant. The event was first celebrated as “Fruit Day” which used to be the community’s way to acquaint everyone through their bountiful harvest. The festival will celebrate its 84th year in Cañon City on May 4th – 8th, 2022. Also held as part of the overall festival is the Royal Gorge Rodeo, Colorado’s longest continuous rodeo since 1872.


Royal Gorge Rodeo – May 6-7th

The Royal Gorge Rodeo claims the spot of hosting “Colorado’s oldest continuous rodeo since 1872”. Held at the Jack Merris Arena in Cañon City, it’s a can’t miss two-day event of rodeo competitions in early May. This year’s rodeo’s exact dates are TBD, however, it will be held during the weekend of the Cañon City Music & Blossom Festival, which takes place Friday and Saturday, May 6th – 7th, 2022.


Denver Cinco de Mayo Festival – May 7-8th

Denver’s Cinco de Mayo “Celebrate Culture” Festival has been a Mile High tradition for more than three decades! The free event will take place in Civic Center Park. It attracts some 400,000 attendees annually and boasts two large stages with live entertainment from morning until night, featuring Mariachi, Cumba, Salsa, Norteno, and many other genres of Latino music and dance.


Estes Park Duck Race Festival – May 7th

In an effort to support Estes Park charities, the park will hold its annual Duck Race Festival. This noble and humble tradition started back in 1989 and has given back more than $2 million to different charities in all the years that it’s held the event. The Duck Race is held every year on the first Saturday of May, this time, taking place on May 7th, 2022. The race starts at Nicky’s Restaurant in Estes Park and finishes at the Rockwell Plaza. The rubber duckies float down Fall River.


Civic Center Eats – May 19th

Civic Center EATS is a one-stop shop for some of the best food on wheels you can find in the Mile High City. Located in Denver’s Civic Center Park, this assembly of food trucks signals sunshine and scrumptious snacks. It’s a great place to enjoy the weather and grab a bite to eat. At the park, you’ll find between 10 and 15 of Denver’s favorite food trucks that cater to a wide variety of dietary restrictions and cravings. Experience the deliciousness on Thursdays, May 19th – September 1st, 2022, from 11 am – 2 pm.


Grand Old West Days May 26-30

Relive the old ways of the West with this upcoming event happening in May. Enjoy three days of fun the way it was done back in the day. The festival will be happening from Thursday to Monday, May 26th thru 30th, 2022 at Moffat County in Craig. There are loads of activities that await those who want to be part of this once-a-year celebration.


Mountainfilm in Telluride – May 26-30th

Included as one of the Coolest Film Festivals in the World by MovieMaker magazines, Mountainfilm in Telluride will once again show screen-worthy gems for audiences that they may never get a chance to watch elsewhere. Mountainfilm aims to use the power of film and cinema to inspire its audience to “create a better world”. Expect to be overwhelmed by roughly 100 carefully selected films from around the world. The event also includes an all-day symposium, guest presentations, book signings, musical concerts, parties, and outdoor activities. The film festival will happen from Thursday to Monday, May 26th to 30th, 2022 in Telluride.


Denver Arts Festival -May 28-29th

Be ready for a festival that celebrates arts and aims to promote some of Colorado’s fine artists. The Denver Arts Festival will be celebrating its 23rd year and is inviting everyone to come to join the festivities. The annual arts festival will be held at the Conservatory Green from Saturday to Sunday, May 28th thru 29th, 2022. Denver Arts Festival expects around 50,000 people in attendance so if you love art, be sure not to miss this out.


Iron Horse Bicycle Classic – May 28th-30th

The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic is one for cycling enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys a vibrant Colorado weekend. The event tests the speed of man versus a machine as they race to beat a train. The first Iron Horse started in 1972 and over the year other events became part of the classic, like road races, tours, BMX, team trail rides, and mountain bike races. Watch the start in downtown Durango by the train depot for the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. This year’s event runs from Saturday to Monday, May 28th to 30th, 2021 in Durango.

 Denver Day of Rock – May 28th

Denver Day of Rock is a free music festival that will feature four stages of live music in LoDo/Downtown Denver. Denver Day of Rock unites the community through music and family-friendly entertainment while also raising funds to help Amp the Cause continue to support nonprofits in our community.
