LIV Sotheby’s International Realty Client Wins the 2021 Mayor’s Design AwardAmanda Molitor
LIV Sotheby’s International Realty (LIV SIR) is excited to share that a Denver home previously listed and sold by LIV SIR brokers, has been recognized at the 2021 Mayor’s Design Award ceremony.
The Mayor’s Design Awards are traditionally presented to the project and property owner to celebrate their investment in good design. This honor highlights this project among the best examples in the city of architecture, exterior design, and place-making, and as one that adds vibrancy to our already unique and thriving city.
When the current owners, Steve and Amanda Gurr, purchased the home it was listed by LIV SIR broker Janet Kritzer. The Gurrs who were not actively looking to buy a new home were caught off guard when their dream house, located just down the street from their residence at the time, came onto the market. Amanda Gurr recalls having lunch with her real estate broker, Nancy Levine, when she decided to take a tour of the home.
“I had always been curious about what that home looked like inside,” said Amanda Gurr. “But once I saw photos of the home, I knew I had to take a tour. It was exactly our style and had everything we wanted.”
The Gurrs, who were originally considering renovating their home at the time to better suit their needs and match their personal style, instantly feel in love with the home’s Mid-Century Modern aesthetic.
“When I saw this architecturally significant property that backed to a golf course near the Gurr’s current home, I knew they were the perfect stewards to modernize it without disregarding the architects original vision,” said Levine. “I was certain that Amanda would see the potential of this marvelous home, and that, backing to the golf course would give Steve the incentive to endure the renovation. What I didn’t know was their exceptional vision to not just enhance the home, but to make it extraordinary.”
With the help of Arch11, a local architecture firm specializing in crafting incredible modern residential and commercial buildings, the Gurrs made extensive changes to the home in order to achieve its award-winning design that it boasts today.
Originally designed by William Muchow, known as the grandfather of Denver Modernism, the home already incorporated classic Mid-Century Modern elements but required updating to bring the new owners’ vision to life. The design team gutted the interior of the home to allow for rewiring, the addition of radiant heat, new plumbing, insulation, and changes to the aesthetic.
“When we purchased the home it had this really unique round kitchen, but ultimately we had to remodel it to make it more functional,” added Amanda Gurr.
Additional changes included replacing the shag carpeting with polished concrete floors, transforming an additional space into a proper home office and removing a hedge wall from obstructing the golf course view. Today, the backyard with its expansive green space and golf course vista is the one of the Gurr’s favorite parts of their home.
