Women in Real Estate: Blazing Trails & Building the BusinessAmanda Molitor
In honor of Women’s History Month, LIV Sotheby’s International Realty (LIV SIR) is taking a moment to appreciate the role that women have played in shaping the real estate industry and recognizing some of the incredible women that help position LIV SIR as the state’s leading luxury and lifestyle-focused brokerage.
Looking back to the 1800s, when real estate was first established as a legitimate business, women began in clerical roles but before long transitioned into agent and broker positions. Although progress moved slowly, another milestone was reached in 1910 when the first woman joined the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). However, the following 40 years proved to be difficult for women looking to establish themselves in the industry. From this struggle, the Women’s Council of Realtors was born, an organization that supported women making strides in real estate. While the organization continues to connect women working in real estate today, the NAR officially lifted its gender restrictions in the 1950s, welcoming women into the nation’s largest real estate association and solidifying their place in the industry.
Today, 64% of real estate professionals associated with the NAR are women. As Colorado’s leading luxury real estate firm, and a business with many brilliant businesswomen behind it, LIV SIR empowers and celebrates women in real estate.
LIV SIR, which achieved more than $5.8 Billion in total sales volume in 2020, has women at the helm of many of the firm’s crucial teams. In fact, 47% of the LIV SIR’s leadership team is made up of women, with the brokerage’s Denver Metro presence led by President, Shannel Ryan.
“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to not only work with some of the best women in the business at LIV SIR, but I’ve also had the benefit of watching them grow in their personal and professional lives. It is a very big part of what drives me,” explained Ryan. “I feel like I am in good company and I learn from the women at LIV SIR every day.”
“I’m proud that we have female leadership,” said Heather Heuer, Senior Vice President of Operations, LIV SIR. “It is important that women be a part of the problem solving and decision making. I’m excited and honored to be one of the women on the team.”
Kara Vinton, the Vice President of Marketing at LIV SIR, also commented, “Female leadership is valued here. I feel like the sky’s the limit. LIV SIR is a wonderful place to grow and realize your passions and talents as a woman and leader.”
The firm also boasts some of the best brokers in the state, many of which are savvy women who have made a name for themselves in the industry through their expertise, commitment to delivering the highest caliber of client services, and strategic approaches to each opportunity.
“At LIV SIR, I get to work with strong, smart, and successful women,” explained Georgia Gallagher, Broker Associate with LIV SIR. “Supporting each other as we work towards our individual goals and building our own businesses is an incredibly empowering thing.”
As a leading real estate firm with 23 locations across Colorado, LIV SIR’s hardworking brokers guide their clients towards their real estate and lifestyle goals with the help of the firm’s skilled support staff that specialize in areas including accounting, marketing, relocation, as well as transaction and listing coordination, to assist them throughout the life of each listing. These dedicated teams ensure brokers are providing their clients with the luxury experience they expect when working with LIV SIR, no matter the price point.
“I feel really supported as a woman at LIV SIR” said another Broker Associate with LIV SIR, Katie Hoster. “It’s important to me that I model being a female business owner to my daughter, and I have the opportunity to do that here.”
Beyond the strategic and day-to-day assistance that LIV SIR’s support staff provides, the women on these teams are sharpening their own skills, furthering their careers, and helping the firm continually refine its services to create the most effective processes offer cutting-edge services.
Peggy Raible, the Managing Broker leading LIV SIR’s Telluride offices, shared “To me, being a leader in this industry means leaning into opportunity and challenging myself each day to be the best version of myself, while maintaining my authentic self. I am grateful to surround myself with local professionals, an organization and family that support my authentic growth and success.”
