Sally Puff Courtney – People of LIV

At LIV Sotheby’s International Realty, our people make the difference! Learn more about one of our remarkable brokers, Sally Puff Courtney, in her personal Q&A.

How long have you been in the real estate industry for? I have successfully practiced real estate on a full-time basis in the Telluride area for 44 years.

What initially drew you to the real estate industry? When I came to Telluride in 1974, my intention was to pursue a teaching position as my undergraduate degree was in the education field. Finding no teaching positions available, I was forced to pivot with my career. My involvement in real estate came naturally and was in tune with my natural interpersonal skills.

What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career? On a personal basis, my biggest accomplishment was raising my son as a single mother while working full-time in the real estate industry. In my real estate career, I am most proud of my success within, what was in the 1970s, a largely male-dominated real estate industry and being able to maintain my success over a span of four decades. My single largest transactional accomplishment was the sale of the $26 million Sunnyside Ranch East in 2001.

What makes LIV Sotheby’s International Realty unique? The global reputation of the Sotheby’s brand has proven to be a big asset and has allowed me to maintain a first-class image and a high profile within the real estate community. The support of the organization has proven to be invaluable.

What is a trend that you are keeping your eye on right now in the industry? As we are in the midst of the longest economic expansion in US history, I am constantly striving to keep abreast of any economic conditions that could impact the real estate industry and the well-being of my client base.

Personally, what drives you in this industry? I always strive to provide my clients with professional and ethical representation in their real estate relationships. As a “people person” I truly enjoy making a bond with my clients that transcend the transaction and lead to personal, long-term friendships.

What are you passionate about? Obviously, my real estate career is one of my primary passions. I am also passionate about the Telluride community and helping to make my small town one of the top resorts in North America. To this end, I am on the Board of Directors of the Telluride Science and Research Center (TRSC) which brings scientists from all over the world to Telluride to collaborate in scientific discussion and advancement.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of the office? I enjoy sailing, deep-sea fishing, and traveling the world to experience new vistas and cultures with my husband, Jim Harley. I also try to maintain a close and supportive relationship with my son, his wife, and my two grandchildren.

What’s your favorite part about living and working in Colorado? I first fell in love with the Telluride area because of its awe-inspiring vistas and unique, small-town atmosphere. In addition to the natural beauty of the area, the Colorado economy has proven to be diverse and stable and progressive in its economic policies promoting growth.

What community do you live in? What do you like about it? I have lived in Telluride for the past 45 years and have watched it evolve from a rough-and-tumble mining town into a world-class resort that thrives in both winter and summer. The town is very supportive of the community and its inhabitants. We support each other physically, emotionally, and mentally and are the very definition of a “caring community”. It is truly a blessing to have been directly involved in helping Telluride build and maintain its cohesive and caring personality.
