Tom Dunn – The People of LIVLIV Sotheby's
At LIV Sotheby’s International Realty, our people make the difference! Learn more about one of our remarkable brokers, Tom Dunn, in his personal Q&A.
What initially drew you to the real estate industry? I moved to Vail the summer of 1994 from Austin, Texas and began working in hospitality. Hospitality led me to property management in Bachelor Gulch while that neighborhood was being built. The aspects of property management I enjoyed the most were working with the client and negotiating the deal, which closely resembled real estate. At that time in my career, I took the plunge into real estate to do all the things I loved with limitless earning potential. Leveraging my property management contacts led to quick success for me.
What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career? In 2010, while the market was flat on it’s back, I was the #1 top producing broker in the Vail Valley for Prudential Colorado Properties and was the #1 producing broker in the State of Colorado for all Prudential affiliates.
What are your hobbies/interests outside of the office? I initially moved here to ski and mountain bike. I am proud to say I still enjoy those very things almost 25 years later. Skiing has changed to snowboarding which is my happy place. Being outside keeps me sane and focused.
My two kids, Ella and Carson, keep me on my toes and I enjoy teaching them the “Colorado Lifestyle.”
I am also very active at my church, The Vail Church, and was recently invited to sit on the board for SEARCH – a group that encourages adults to take the next step toward God.
What’s your favorite part about living and working in Colorado? The lifestyle!!! Yes, we sell homes, but above it all we are selling a lifestyle.
To be able to look around and bask in the Colorado beauty is a true blessing. When I am traveling and asked where I’m from and what I do, when I answer with Colorado I often get that eye roll along with “Must be nice!”
I am humbled every day by the majesty of Vail and do not take it for granted.
What community do you live in? What do you like about it? I live in Eagle-Vail. It is centrally located between Vail and Beaver Creek. My clients always ask me why I live there and without hesitation, I say “Because it is flat!” My kids are able to roll right out the garage on their bikes during the summer and walk down the street to their friend’s house. Often times living on the hill keeps kids inside because of having to climb back up a hill. Might sound like a small thing, but for my family living here has proven to be a game changer.
