Located in Southwest Colorado, 28 miles north of the City of Gunnison, sits Crested Butte – the eighth largest historic district in the state of Colorado. Crested Butte is rich in mining history and often called “The Gateway to the Elk Mountains.”
Best known for Crested Butte Mountain Resort, this panoramic mountain town affords an unbelievable lifestyle, where downhill ski and mountain bike trails are the main attraction. You can find Nordic ski routes all over town! It’s also extremely pedestrian-friendly boasting historic buildings, mountain views, and ample shops, and cafés to pop into.
Don’t miss the annual Santa Ski and Crawl in December! Each year, the event sets out to break its own World Record for the greatest number of skiers, boarders, and bladers in full santa costumes. It’s also open to all ages so the whole family can get in on the fun! And nothing beats a drive down West Elk Loop Scenic and Historic Byway. The route showcases the wilderness area of Kebler Pass and is a local favorite for quaking aspen trees in the fall.
