MAYA: Hidden Worlds Revealed | To the ancient and living Maya, the ceiba tree is sacred. Its trunk is of this world, its roots plunge into the depths of the underworld and its lofty branches reach into the heavens. Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed explores these worlds of life, death, and rebirth, at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science from February 14 – August 24, 2014.
Known for their sophisticated written language, art, architecture, and complex mathematical and astronomical systems, the Mesoamerican civilization known as the Maya have fascinated scientists and archeologists for centuries.
Unlock the Maya past, discover histories in stone, examine models of ancient cities, and learn about the Maya’s sacred game. Immerse yourself into Mayan culture and explore a model of an ancient neighborhood or re-creation of an ancient house, all in the confines of the museum. Watch live dance performances, meet artists, mingle with curators, and take home your own crafts at the many special events and programs taking place during the exhibit. Admission prices range from $4 to $8 for members and $17 to $22 for non-members.
Whether going solo, or with family and friends, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science breathes new life into this extraordinary civilization and offers an interactive and educational experience for all ages. What makes a fun-filled day at the museum even sweeter? Mayan themed chocolates. Make sure to sample the Mayan spiced truffle, chocolate covered cacao nibs, and sipping chocolate, handcrafted by Boulder chocolatier Piece, Love, & Chocolate, available for purchase at the Museum Shop or at their Boulder store.
